What a weekend of cross this past weekend in Lincoln, NE. Coach, Jeri, and me and Margie all made the trip up north. It was a blast. Saturday started out with coach racing in the masters class and he eventually had to pull out of with damage to his bike and body.....looked like he had gotten into a fight with a tiger and lost. Both knees were swollen and bloodied. He decided to pull out and get ready for the Cat 3/4 race. He had a much better race placing 10th in a large group. Next up ...

You guys definitely have a sweet trail system there, and it's lit the proverbial fire under my ass to do my part in keeping Thousand Hills enjoyably rideable.

Momma nature finally brought some cross weather to the final stage of the DeStad Series at Leavenworth today. Temps started dropping and it started spitting rain during the warm up. Drizzle soon turned to rain. The course had lots of twisty turns that soon became grease pits with lots of carnage. Roadies were not digging this course.

I took a major crash right from the get go on the first muddy turn coming of the pavement start. I had to get up and ride through all the riders that passed ...

Got a message from a few of the mountain bike youngsters from Trenton about the trail conditions at Crowder.

I am going to meet them Saturday at around 10am to clear leaves and general trail cleanup. We plan on working on Tall Oaks. Anyone that wants to help can meet us in the parking lot next to the shelter houses. I wont have the work trailer, but will grab leaf blowers and rakes. If you have a leaf blower it might be best to bring it. Small percentage of rain in forecast so if its ...

Some of our local "crossers" headed over to Topeka and raced under the lights at the Heartland Race Track. That was some blazing fast racing and the course was a blast.

Part of the course was outside the track area in the grassy sections and then wound around and back into the track. They had built a set of stairs that you had to dismount and run up to get over the wall and then remount and ride down a ramp.

The pace was crazy fast and one mistake and you were left behind. ...

Pinch yourself, the weather is suppose to be in the 70's this weekend and Indian Creek is calling for some knobbie friends to come out and play. The overlooks are at their best and the creeks are running. What a beautiful trail. Probably the best trail that "nobody knows about!"

Mitch and I have been busy little trail elves, taking advantage of dry temps and strong tail winds to get the trails blown from #17 down to the dam.

I plan on getting out to the CG loop today and ...

Today was the state High School XC meet in Jefferson City. I looked up the results and it looks like Coach Riekena's team had a great showing in Class 3. Mary Kate placed 16th out of 165 with a time of 21:09. Daniel Riekena was 76th (18:45) and Thomas Cassity was 116th (19:26) in a field of 159. The top finisher in the boys Class 3 was the fastest of all the classes with a time of 15:48, that's just under a 5:06/mile avg....impressive.

I rode from #17 south to the CGL and back up today. I threw lots of debris and downed trees off the trail.

There is a tree that is blocking the trail on the steep downhill between the dam and CR510 trailhead. The tree is located in a spot where a rider will be coming down fast and turning a corner. Could be a real bad deal! There is also a widow maker hanging in a tree in the same location. If I get a chance, I'll try to get out with a chainsaw and take care of the tree before someone ...

Just a warning. If you want to ride Indian Creek before the trails get closed for deer season, better get er done this week. Looks like great weather to ride and the views to the bottoms are beautiful.

The creeks are running bank full. I did a recon hike last week the day after one of the big rains and all the waterfalls were dropping water. Indian Creek is an awesome hike in the winter, and especially after a rain. I like to hike in and see where all the water is going and where the ...

I'm sitting here this morning digesting the race at the Berryman yesterday, and moving this sore old body about every minute.

All the "home boys" finished, and that was quite a feat in itself as the 2009 BTE was truly epic. We knew it was going to be epic when we could see all the streams flowing full bank on the way down. When we arrived at Bass River Resort and went to check into our A frame rental, the water from the "flooding river" was lapping at the road we needed ...

I made my second trip out to Poosey yesterday and was glad to meet a couple people out riding. It was also nice to ride maintained trails. The bike scene here in Kirksville leaves plenty to be desired to say the least. The trails are in pretty rough shape, but it is my aim to have them in more user friendly condition within the next several weeks -- weather permitting. Currently the trail is mowed, but still needs sapling/corridor work in most sections.

Prepping the bike. Sorting the gear. Doing "what if" scenarios in my head and making lists. That is what separates epic races from the typical cross country types.

"Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail!" I've found out this the hard way, earning my lumps. I'm heading back to the Berryman because of some unfinished business that resulted from lack of prep and planning. It has been reported that a 200 class whitetail has been spotted on the CA, if you remember Scott Fowler of Florida harvested a monster whitetail at Poosey in Sept of 2004.

The deer that has been sighted on more than one occasion is expected to be as big or bigger than the Fowler buck which is creating a big stir so the area will be flooded ...

Congrats to all the Green Hills Crossers

The Green Hills region was represented well at the cross race in KC. We had two newbies toe the line and learn some of the ins and outs of cross racing.

Denny and Mitch raced the Cat 4 race (beginner) and it had the largest field of the day. The race was only 30 minutes long but someone ask Mitch and Denny how long it felt.

I think the boys learned why it is important to start fast and get out of the crowd. Plus, with a 30 minute race, when you don't start fast, you run out of time ...

What a weekend of racing at what will soon become the mecca of trails in the KC area. The venue and facilities were top notch and both races had large fields.

The KC Cup Cross event on Saturday had almost 170 racers and the course was challenging and fun. This course favored mountain bikers with all the technical features.

The Green Hills area had 3 racers representing in this cross season kick-off event. Colton Palmer (James's nephew), spanked the Jr. class in winning his first ...

We got this from the website email. I thought I would pass this along in case anybody is in the market for another bike. You can never have enough bikes!

My name is Vicki Weaver and I live 5 miles northwest of Crowder State Park.

In April 1994 I bought a Schwinn Criss Cross 21-speed road bike at Bike Works in Gladstone. It was $300 and has a 16" frame. For about the last 12 years it's been hanging in my shed. I also have a bike rack that fits on ...

I cut out the tree that was down on the other side of Deer Camp. There is ...

Just read an email from Denny and he informs me that there has been horses on the trail between the dam and 510 access.

Denny says they kicked up a lot of rocks and chewed up the steep climb to 510. If you see horses on the trail, we need to find out who they are and contact the conservation dept. law enforcement.

I'm hoping this is not going to start being a pattern. We have had some atv's on the campground lap also. I have contacted Phil Sneed about both of these instances.
