Today was the state High School XC meet in Jefferson City. I looked up the results and it looks like Coach Riekena's team had a great showing in Class 3. Mary Kate placed 16th out of 165 with a time of 21:09. Daniel Riekena was 76th (18:45) and Thomas Cassity was 116th (19:26) in a field of 159. The top finisher in the boys Class 3 was the fastest of all the classes with a time of 15:48, that's just under a 5:06/mile avg....impressive.

I made my second trip out to Poosey yesterday and was glad to meet a couple people out riding. It was also nice to ride maintained trails. The bike scene here in Kirksville leaves plenty to be desired to say the least. The trails are in pretty rough shape, but it is my aim to have them in more user friendly condition within the next several weeks -- weather permitting. Currently the trail is mowed, but still needs sapling/corridor work in most sections.

Mitch actually only went halfway down, but his bike made it the rest of the way down without the driver. Mitch unfortunately was flopping around like a fish out of water over in the weeds. Great news is that he was alright, bike suffered some problems but that can be repaired. In honor of that I have posted a pic on my blogsite of Mitchs facial expression while ...

I got home from work about 3:30 today and got my road bike ready and it was sprinkling when I went out onto the porch so I went riding anyway. The steady light rain began while I was on old 190 and didn't stop the whole time but it was still a really good ride.
Went out for a gravel grinder yesterday, ended up with 32 plus miles and there were a few sections with quite a bit of gravel. Several places were still really fast but it got pretty sketchy in areas. I let my momentum carry me but a couple of times the rocks just sucked me in and I was all over the place. I kept the front end as light as possible but I still had some parts of my body that were puckering.....and I don't mean my lips. I couldn't figure out why the bottom of my toes were tender ...

Monday night when I was bringing up the tail of the pack my mind started wandering!!!! Watching the large group way up in front of me dicing and slicing for position, some pulling and some drafting....waiting for the perfect moment to slingshot into the front. Looked like alot of fun, but my legs wouldnt let me join in. My ego didnt like it much, but mental toughness can only take you so far.

As many times as I've been up and down that stretch (or should I say stench) of 190, you'd think it would kick into my mind that it has flooded the low areas.

I went out with the idea that I'd check out what was available and not muddy.

I rode down the service road to where it crosses a small bridge and starts the dirt road section. Whoa, not today. It had a wet slime that would have balled my ...

I was out riding the loop tonight and after I climbed up Y and took the short stretch up the hill to A I noticed one of the bike signs was off the wooden sign post. The smaller sign that said "Next 6 Miles" was still there though. I kept on riding and up the road a little ways I noticed another sign post, this one was metal, it had been pulled up and was laying on the ground. Does anyone know if something is suppose to be going on? Or is it vandalism?

I found this on the MMBA website and thought it was a great tool for groups to be proactive about trail damage and erosion problems that could have been avoided. The title of the topic on their forum was "Resist the Temptation". I know we are pretty well past the thaw cycle and now it is the "I have a lake in my yard" cycle, but it is something to consider for when it is just plain muddy.

Anyway I thought it was cool.

Just a warning. I've had more flat tires this year then I can ever remember. I know it has to do with the cinder that has been thrown on our roads. Lots of little sharp pieces of material to puncture tires. I've decided to buy some "Specilaized Armadillos" until this crap get's washed off the roads with spring rain.
I've had a flat tire on all but one of my road rides in the last month.

I just realized today that the time change this year is Sun March, 9th. Some of us will be in Oklahoma for "Hills of Hell", I thought I might lose some sleep becasue I was excited about the race, I just didn't realize it was going to be because we were going to set our clocks ahead one hour.
