PostSubject: Indian Creek needs some TLC   Tue May 19, 2009 9:18 pm

I went out and rode from the Campground all the way up to 17 and back. I think it took me about 3 hours by the time I pulled the debris out of my spokes, cleaned debris out of creeks, and made mental notes on what needs to be done to get Indian Creek in good riding order.

Just when I thought I'd seen it all with the way the creeks had been cut with all the rain, I realize there was a new-deeper standard. I think we are seeing the "wet standard" and I'm ready for some draught.

Some observations: All trail needs to be built with outslope using the 50% rule. Bench cut trail dries faster and is the only way to go for sustainability. Use a clinometer when planning tread grade and stay away from the real steep stuff. I like a challenge but we have a lot of trail that only the strongest can ride and it's not standing up to all the wet.

I made notations for a lot of reroutes that will make the trails more enjoyable and easier to maintain.

As soon as all the stewards get their trail sections maintained/mowed, we need to walk through and fix some sections for now, and then work on reroutes- 1 at a time.

I can't say my ride today was very fun. With all the starting and stopping, stinging nettles, ticks, slick rocks, challenging creek crossings. Dang-almost sounds like the stuff we used to ride before we started building better trails.
