Bernzie: I rode a set of Pythons for a while and really liked them. They where very fast, somewhat drifty, but very predictable. I ran the rear tire "backwards" and it hooked up almost supernaturally on the climbs. I blew out the side wall from what looked like a cut from a rock and never replaced them.

Thanks for your input, I think they will be perfect for the Lumberjack course.

The "Pythons" were the sexy-fast tire that I rode for a number of years and I found them to be a perfect tread for lots of different terrain.

I ended up replacing them on a regular basis as this tire also has a nasty rep for side wall cuts and I have a whole bunch of them hanging in my garage that have been patched with "radial tire" patches or waiting to be patched on a rainy day in the future.

I quit using them and have moved on. I did see a lot of racers using them down at Syllamo. I heard there was lots of riders with flats at Syllamo. Just saying!

I don't think I would want to run Python's at Syllamo, I'll stick with Armadillo's on the real rocky stuff after cutting a few sidewalls in Arkansas. I know Python's are kind of old school and they have been pretty popular on both sides of the fence, 1: for a good trail tire and 2: having weak sidewalls. The most technical part of trail at Lumberjack in the past has been just a couple eroded out downhills and the course has very little rock, I know a sidewall cut can happen about anywhere so I hope I will be okay.

Just one more thing to think about before we roll out of town, I have plenty on my mind about next weekends race pale .

Sometimes people think to much about things....I like to go with the "run what you brung" tire choice. Whatever is on my bike is whata im gonna run!!! Was my tire choice correct for the muddy Rhetts Run? Nope....but thats what I ran, because thats what I had!!! Laughing It still would have been miserable either way!!! When I wear these out then I probably give it some more thought.
Tires are a major thing in all kinds of racing. I won a track championship with my modified back in '03....started the season with 4 new tires, had 2 crap old spares, then about halfway through the year bout 2 more new ones....for a total of 6 new tires and 2 old ones. I was racing against guys that would replace tires every other week at $95 a piece. We figured out the right shocks, springs, and tire pressure.....did I just say tire pressures??? Ppppffffttt, you dont even know! Then proceed to win races all year, along with the season ending Championship race on old tires.....but of course I was cheating, just ask the guy that kept getting 2nd place. So basically biking is all the same stuff....now I only have 2 wheels and no roll cage, which is a whole nother story altogether!!! Cool
