I thought I'd throw this out there and have some fun with it. I notice that we have a good many lurkers on the board that "peek in" on the boards, for whatever reason.

Maybe we can encourage some to step up and reply and let us know what their motivation and "action plan" is for 2010.

I'll kick it off. Here goes:
1. More road miles in 2010. I have a road bike in the works and look forward to putting on some long training rides and adding a few road races to my schedule.
2. Ramping up the expectations for 2010 race results. I pretty much raced 2009 without a plan and trained "haphazardly!" I plan on having a great mountain bike season but will put even more emphasis on cross this year. This was the first serious cross season that I raced and I plan on taking what I learned and raising the bar in my class.
3. Continue to improve and maintain the trail system at Indian Creek. I hope to add more trail in 2010, but that is always dependent of what the Conservation Dept. will allow. I'm hoping to meet with the MDC soon and discus expansion.
4. Encourage new riders to get out and experience cycling and fun fitness. I've already started my list of new potential riders. This group will not grow unless everyone does their share to encourage others to give cycling a try. Sure would be nice to have a trailer with bikes, helmets, gloves, etc.... Maybe in the near future!
5. Get back up to Crowder and work on some needed reroutes and host another successful "Rapture In Misery" in August. This can't be successful without the support of the "Green Hills" family. I hope to have 250 racers in 2010.
6. Help promote the new race series: "United Federation of Dirt" so we will have the opportunity to participate in local races and hang out with our friends.

That's a start. How about you?

So here is a small effort in bringing up the view to reply ratio.
My plans are pretty modest -- get back into the habit of riding on a regular basis, and most importantly to pull the tail from between Thousand Hills Trail's legs (or at least give her less to be embarrased about)

Here are my plans for the year....Im sure there is more:

1. Actually have a training program.
2. Get back to my weight of 150 or below.....would like to see 145 this year. I have currently ballooned up to 158. I know why and thats a good start!!
3. Be a contender in the Sport class every race.
4. Work harder on interval training.
5. Push myself to stay at the front on group rides....suffer better.
6. Add weight lifting into my program...(already started)
7. Focus on cross racing this fall and try to actually win one!!
8. Im going to get 2 new riders this year.
9. Help maintain and add new trails.
10. Take Jaxon mountain biking this summer at CG loop.

My goals have nothing to do with winning, would I like to win and will I race hard...you bet but winning isn't my goal. I am going for things that will push me beyond where I have ever been before.

2010

1. Have a much better Dirty Kanza 200 than last year.

2. Finish the Lumberjack 100 in 10 hr 45 min or less. The first year I finished in 12 hr 17 min 18 secs so I set a goal to finish last year in 10 hr 59 min 59 sec or less. I fell a bit short of my goal by finishing the race in 11 hr 8 min 56 secs so I am upping the ante this year.

3. You might think I'm crazy but to compete in a 24 hr solo race this year. I am looking at possibly 9 mile or Mohican. This will be the toughest challenge that I have ever come up against and I caution anyone that has a negative thing to say about it: KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!!!! I don't need anyone planting seeds of doubt in my mind, I will need encouragment for this goal and some training partners as well. I am hoping schedules will work out but I have a mechanic in mind to take with me, and have started a plan for extra bikes as well.

I think that is enough on my plate for 2010, if I left anything out just let me know!!!

Nope, it doesn't matter as long as it isn't at 9-10,000 ft. and slanted toward the "mountain goats" that live at altitude.

I say bring it to Arkansas or Missouri in July when it's 95-100 and 100% humidity. Want to watch some :mountain goats" melt down?

It all comes down to bidding for the nationals and they usually have to have it in some kind of resort town to house all the racers and take care of the gravity events. I expect to see a national championship in Windham, New York in the future. They are hosting a world cup next year and have spent a lot of money on their trails and mountain biking offerings. I love that course and would be there in a heartbeat!

I may have to join you guys on the long training rides when I come back to town. I'm also doing the Dirty Kanza. Right now, the plan is to do it on the singlespeed, but I've been told I wouldn't be the first to switch to the geared class before the race. Goal is just to finish.

I want to do a couple of 12 hour races this year, RIM and Burnin at the Bluff. I'd like to get at least 100 miles in, but those are both tough courses. I want to be competitive in the marathon class in the MWFTS, and be top ten overall at the Binder Lake 6 hour race on my home trail.

The last year I concentrated my trailwork on the rainbow loop at Binder, since everyone else concentrates on the race loop. I want to also work on the lakeside loop, because it was almost unridable in late summer.

Stoney:
Great goals and it is cool to see another Chillicothe native out tearing it up on a bicycle. Just contact me anytime your going to be in the area and you'll have a riding partner for those "epic" training rides.

I need to come down to your neck of the woods and ride Binder. I haven't rode it for a number of years now. I was riding it when they first started putting trails in and it had all those "fall line" trails, back when Roger McKay was working and riding out there.

Thanks for stepping up and sharing your goals!

In addition to riding more this year and keeping THT in respectable shape, I hope to get fast again. For whatever reasons, some that hold more water than others, my riding has become painfully pedestrian. I am in the process of turning my shed into my home gym and I'm going to spend the next few months working through the P90X cycles. I'm using my last time out at Indian Creek as a benchmark to measure any increase in overall fitness (49minutes out & 49minutes back from the boat ramp to 17 -- slow, but feeling pretty solid on the bike) Looking forward to a new season and maybe crossing paths with you guys on the trail before too many moons have passed.
Happy Trails

After some serious thought..... affraid ....I have decided to add a #11 and #12 to mine.

#11 Actually get to the front and do some pulling on group road rides instead of riding wheels the whole way.

#12 Take 30 mins off my time at Berryman Epic. I've already got a plan to take off at least 10 mins so I need to find another 20 mins somewhere.

Just pray for no rain!!!

Hey, does that course have any climbing? I don't remember because by the time my body recovered from oxygen debt we were already halfway home.

I have managed to ride more this year than I have the last several (still not as much as I should though). My "work" on Thousand Hills Trail has been an absolute flop (two days out in the beginning of May) and THT is in the absolute worst shape it's even seen -- worse even than me -- and that's saying a lot. (P90X didn't happen either)

I'm working on the cross part of #2. Cross season is just starting and I've got a 2nd and 3rd in the first 2 races. Damn these young ens turning 49 this year and picking on us older 50's guys. I'm ready to turn up the fire so I hope they are wearing asbestos!

Got one more mountain bike race to complete my mountain bike season.

Hope to get some new trail built in the winter at Poosey and Crowder!
