PostSubject: Dog Hill needs your love.   Wed Oct 05, 2011 4:02 pm

It was just a couple weeks ago when "Dog Hill" got ridden by a single speed for the first time, and it was actually 3 riders that day. I'm not posting this to brag but I am pretty excited about it because "Dog Hill" has now been ridden by 4 single speed riders. It took me 4 tries and 32 x 20 gearing to make it but I made it.

Coach said that when Craig S. made it up he flew up the hill, so some might ask if I "flew" up it. I wasn't there to see Craig ascend the climb but if he was giving it all he had at the bottom and then stalled out at the top side of the crib wall on the left side and then kept his bike balanced and leaned into the handlebars while pulling the bars to his chest as hard as he could to generate some forward momentum and then was able to create a couple more pedal strokes and then ride on up the rest of the hill then....Heck Yes, I was hauling tail!!!

Actually I was pulling up so hard on the pedals at the bottom of the hill, trying to build speed, it was moving the back end of my bike around and I was losing momentum. I didn't have a lot of legs left for the next couple climbs after that even though they weren't steep, but I didn't care.

Congratulations Mitch, that is a "man Climb" that many with gears still walk. Glad to see you out riding today. The trails are in perfect condition for any kind of riding. hiking, or running! Poosey is so beautiful in the fall. I've enjoyed my days out working on the trails this week.

BTW-not to hurt your feelings, but Craig S. blew by me full speed on Dog Hill. Well, full speed on one speed, and a fixy at that!! Very impressive!

That doesn't hurt my feelings a bit, he is a STUD. In fact all three of those guys on fixie's are STUDS. Plus they were probably running a much smaller rear cog than I was which makes it even more impressive!!!

Way to go Mitch!!! I've had that climb in my cross hairs since Crowder Fest. Those fixie guys have me determined to clean that thing. If you ever make the trip over to Thousand Hills, you might bring your single speed. It's a pretty good single speed trail. There are a few bears of climbs to be found here, but most of the trail hugs the lake edge.
