Shelter House To Deer Camp Empty
PostSubject: Shelter House To Deer Camp   Shelter House To Deer Camp Icon_minitimeSat Mar 10, 2012 10:54 pm

I got out and walked from the shelter house to deer creek today, it was in pretty good shape overall. Threw off debris as I walked but really only 6 or so somewhat large branches to remove, threw off a lot of little stuff too but I'm sure that I missed some. When we go ahead and blow the trail most of the little stuff will go with the leaves. I probably need to make another pass with some loppers, not a lot to trim but a few areas for sure. I will need to do some deberming in areas as well. There was one tree top down covering part of the trail but it was dead and hollowed out and with the help of gravity it is now removed. There is one tree that got twisted and is down (off the trail) but 3 or 4 feet is sticking up near the edge of the trail, I will probably need to get that removed so nobody hooks a bar end on it, also the low hanging branch on Patti's Point seems much lower now so I will need to remove it also.
I did run into a couple guys from Excelsior Springs hiking on the trail today, they started at the boat ramp and hiked up to lot 17 and were on the return trip. They seemed to really be enjoying the trail and I believe they were camping as well. I told them they need to get up to Crowder some time and try those trails, they said they had heard about Crowder as well. I asked them if they rode bikes too and one of them does, maybe they will come back and maybe bring some more friends!

Hey Mitch, I was one of those guys. We enjoyed our time on the trail . They were in very good shape for hiking. How long is the campground loop and how far is the trail from being a full loop? It was nice to meet you yesterday. Do you guys have a schedule of trail building or maintenance? Thanks again MB.

I was the other guy on the trail...and I do indeed ride at times (although not as well as I would like lol). Most of the hike I was thinking about how nice the trail would be on a bike as well. I have a couple guys that I would love to bring out and show just how nice the trail is. I would also be interested in making the loop all the way around the lake a reality by pitching in on a work day sometime!

Hey Guys,
It was so good to meet you Saturday, I'm glad you found one of our "gems" of a trail. It's so nice to have others enjoying the trails we call home, I do hope you guys bring some other with you again.
The campground loop is 1.6 miles and the connector to the boat ramp is (I'm guessing here) about .5 miles. As far as how much more to loop the lake...quite a bit. The trail is in Phase 7 right now and is being built on some really cool sections for hiking, so many times riding a bike we miss some of the scenery but hiking allows one to take in so much more.
Keep in touch!

Was out at IC yesterday and hiked through from 17 to where I currently have the trailer parked and then dropped down and over the creek and up the other side and hiked back in to 17. I've been hiking all those short cuts for years and have always had a plan for ways to connect the dots to create more stacked loops.

Things are starting to dry out a little with all the wind and warm temps. This is the time of the year to learn where the weeps are and check out erosion issues. The creeks were flowing and the new section on phase 7 that borders the creek was awesome and noisy with all the water cascading. My hike was super until I had a familiar sting in my "twin region" only to discover a tick had attached and was having lunch. Yep, my first tick of the year. Better get ready!

For work day updates stay tuned right here. We will be having some as soon as I get the proposed corridor roughed in. Would be great to have a big camp out at either of #20 or the campground by the dam.
