I've been a busy "trail beaver" the past few days taking advantage of a couple of beautiful autumn days. I was needing to take care of my "trail fix" so I got busy on one of my proposed projects, constructing a reroute on the west side of the dam. The new reroute addition will hopefully help new trail users find the trail while also allowing us to by-pass the erosive fall line climb on the old service road.
I think you'll enjoy this little "short but sweet" piece of single track. It's built totally IMBA spec. I just wished I'd had more IMBA training when I starting building this trail in the first place. This little section took about 20 hours to build. I'm telling you this because I was enjoying every single second of the time. It was 60-70 degrees, sunny, and the leaves were falling as I was in deep thought working like an artisan creating a new piece of art.
I walked out just about dusk. There was no wind as I crossed the dam looking north up the lake. The water was crystal clear and I could see deep into the lake. And to think that people actually pay professionals for therapy when they can have this for free! Come on out when you can, and join Dr. Doug for some therapy. It's really not free though. Expect to pay for your solace with a little "trail toil" and "earn your dirt!" Your pay will come back to you a hundredfold.
Life is good when little boys grow up to be old men, but they still get to play in the dirt.
